Is Grounding just a Buzzword?
It’s definitely a buzzword! But, it’s real and it’s critical to maintaining some semblance of inner peace and calm in this crazy, beautiful world we live in.
It’s just what it sounds like – being fully aware of self and connecting with the Earth. Grounding allows us to be being present in our physical bodies.
It gives our energy a place to anchor, creating stability.
What’s all the Hype?
Being constantly bombarded by information and stimuli in the world around us, it’s easy to become energetically and emotionally overwhelmed.
Do you ever feel like you’re going so fast or taking in so much information that you get dizzy or lightheaded? Have you been called ‘spacey’ or feel like you’re walking around in a dream?
It’s most likely that you’re ungrounded. When we’re not grounded in our physical bodies we’re likely to be easily distracted and susceptible to the chaos and drama around us.
Grounding provides a sense of centeredness, stability, focus and strength.
We’re much more likely to respond than react when grounded. That translates to less flying off the handle when your spouse is buried in their cell phone or when traffic stops and you’re already 10 minutes late to pick up the kids.
Physically, it has been shown that grounding reduces inflammation, emotional stress, elevates mood, improves circulation and amps up our immune systems.
With all of those benefits, tell me why most of people don’t practice this simple exercise on a daily basis?
Grounding, it’s Easy Peesy Lemon Squeezy!
Grounding is a high return investment. With little input, you get BIG results. There’s no defined process. No way it has to be done. Whatever brings you a sense of connection and centeredness is what you’re looking for.
Some common methods:
- Use a guided grounding meditation. There are a ton of free ones on YouTube or apps like Insight Timer
- Diaphragmatic breathing (download my free guided meditation HERE)
- Visualize roots growing from your feet and connecting you to the Earth
- Hug a tree
- Walk barefoot on the soft, green grass
- Eat root vegetables
- Use earthing products – mats and sheets like the ones sold at earthing.com. I have not used these personally but know of people who do and swear by them.
Regardless of your method of choice, the key is daily practice – on busy days, I ground my energy as often as possible!
