Have you ever walked into a room and felt immediately fatigued, tense or anxious?
It happened to me tonight. I’m on travel this week for my 9-5. I could feel it as soon as I got off the elevator at my hotel. Room 332 needs a space clearing!
There is a heavy energy of anger and frustration, perhaps from an argument that took place earlier. It does more than just lingers….it permeates.
Consider the housekeeping service at a hotel. What if that didn’t exist? There would be debris of prior guests, dust, dirt on the floors, and un-made beds in every room.
Energy is no different….
Energetic “dust and dirt” from prior events and emotions can remain as residue in any space.
This kind of energetic contamination can lead to headaches, depressed moods, fitful sleep, and anxiety for future guests.
Unfortunately, I don’t carry a sage wand and smudge bowl with me everywhere I go. Even if I did, most places, like in this room, you simply can’t just light up.
Here are a few tips for quick and effective space clearings when you don’t have the normal tools for the job. First and foremost, as always, intention is everything, so start with that.
Light it up!
No fires allowed of course, but let in the light! Open the blinds, open the windows if possible. Allow the natural clearing elements of nature to sweep through the room clearing out any energies that no longer serve you or that space.
OM, pronounced ‘AUM’, is the perfect mantra for space clearing. Its high vibration has clearing, de-cluttering effects, which is why its widely used in meditation and yoga practices. Walk around the space, while chanting OM for 10-15 minutes or find one on YouTube and let it play while you unpack or visit the lobby.
Usually these are singing bowls, rain sticks or gongs. Harmony balls are nice too and small enough to travel with. Stand in the center of the space and play the instrument while you move around the room in a clockwise direction. Sound waves break up stagnant chi. If you didn’t pack your crystal bowl, clapping or snapping will work too!
There are tons of these on the market like this one by Momoko Therapeutics. But I don’t always remember to carry it with me!
Here are a few alternatives. Add a few drops of lavendar to some spring or filtered water, a shot of vodka (your hotel has a bar, right?), and a dash of salt. Use your fingers to spritz this homemade smudge spray around your room.
If you don’t have the lavender or access to the vodka, salt absorbs negative energy, so a salt and water combo will work just as well!
